How to Watch IPTV on Mac
Watch IPTV on a Mac — install a player from the App Store or developer site, sign in, and stream. Includes the VLC quick-test route and Apple Silicon notes.

Macs handle IPTV well, and Apple Silicon machines (M1 onwards) have an extra trick: they can run many iPhone/iPad player apps natively. Here are the routes that work.
Option 1: A player app
- Open the Mac App Store and search for an IPTV player — IBO Player Pro and several Smarters-style players ship Mac versions. On an Apple Silicon Mac, iPhone/iPad apps that allow it (such as IPTV Smarters Lite) also appear in Mac App Store search results and run natively.
- Install and open the app.
- Sign in with the Xtream Codes API option using the username, password and server URL from your welcome message. IBO-family apps use their MAC/device-key registration instead — flow covered in the IBO Player Pro guide.
- Let the channel list and programme guide download, and you're watching.
Option 2: VLC for a quick test
Same trick as on Windows — no EPG, but instant:
- Install VLC for macOS from videolan.org.
- File → Open Network (Cmd+N).
- Paste your M3U playlist URL and click Open.
- Window → Playlist shows the channel list.
If a stream plays in VLC but not in a player app, the app's settings are the suspect — not your connection or the service. Background on the link formats in M3U vs Xtream Codes API.
Watching on an external display? macOS full-screens video on whichever display holds the window — drag the player to the big screen first, then go full screen, and the laptop stays free for everything else.
If something is not working
- App from outside the App Store won't open — right-click the app and choose Open the first time, or approve it under System Settings → Privacy & Security. Only do this for apps from the developer's official site.
- Choppy playback on battery — macOS throttles on low power; plug in, or lower the stream quality in the app.
- Login or playlist problems — the checklists in fixing login problems and refreshing a playlist cover the usual causes.
