The Firestick is the UK's default IPTV device, and its setup is well-trodden: ten minutes, no tools, no expertise. This is the overview — what to buy, what to install, which route to take — with links to the step-by-step screens where you need them.
Choosing the stick
| Model | Get it if |
|---|---|
| Firestick HD / Lite | Budget pick for 1080p TVs and bedrooms |
| Firestick 4K | Your TV is 4K — the sweet spot for most homes |
| Firestick 4K Max | You want the fastest menus and Wi-Fi 6/6E |
| Fire TV Cube | You want built-in Ethernet and hands-free control |
Rule of thumb: buy the 4K model unless you know why you aren't. The performance gap over the basic stick is noticeable every single day, and the price gap is small.
Choosing the player
The stick runs everything, so this is preference, not constraint:
- IPTV Smarters — simplest start; login screen matches your welcome message fields exactly.
- IBO Player Pro — polished interface; one-off developer activation, then MAC-based playlist management.
- TiviMate — the best programme guide in the business; a little more setup, a lot more comfort for heavy live-TV viewers.
The trade-offs in depth: player comparison.
The two install routes
Route 1 — Amazon Appstore. If your chosen player is listed (search from the Fire TV home screen), install it like any app. Done.
Route 2 — Downloader. For apps outside the store: enable installs from unknown sources for the free Downloader app, enter the player's download code or URL, install the APK. It sounds technical; it's four screens. The Firestick tutorial shows each one, and the Smarters-specific guide covers that app's exact flow.
Either route ends the same way: open the app, choose the Xtream Codes API login, enter the details from your Nexlivo welcome message, wait a minute for channels and guide to load.
After setup: the five-minute polish
- Set favourites — daily viewing shouldn't involve the full list.
- Check the guide — if times look shifted, the stick's time zone needs to be Europe/London (EPG fixes).
- Consider Ethernet — a £12 adapter turns evening-sport Wi-Fi roulette into a solved problem (why).
- Delete the leftover APK in Downloader if you sideloaded — frees storage on a device that hasn't much.
- Restart the stick monthly — small computers like a fresh start.
When something misbehaves
The three Firestick classics and their fixes: buffering, login problems, and stale playlists. And support answers 24/7 when you'd rather a human drove.
